In the case South Dakota v. Wayfair Inc., where the state contended it was losing out on local sales taxes as more and more people shopped online rather than in brick-and-mortar establishments, the United States Supreme Court ruled in South Dakota’s favor on June 21, 2018.
Since 2018, different state sales tax laws and regulations have been implemented across the United States, forcing online sellers like Raw Gold & Diamond Co. to adjust. Based on the location where the order is delivered, sales taxes are computed and assessed.
1. A customer from Arkansas places an order for silver for $1,000. In accordance with Louisiana’s bullion-specific sales tax regulations, they would also be required to pay an extra $40.00 in sales tax.
2.) A customer in Louisiana orders $1,000 worth of silver to be shipped to any Texas Depository. Because there is no state sales tax in Texas on gold and silver bullion coins or bars, in this instance the client would just pay $1,000 to Texas Precious Metals.
